XO Handcraft

XO Handcraft is a Danish brand that creates the finest handmade figurines, Christmas decorations and decorations in cardboard maché. Behind the brand is Sif, who has a great love for old craft traditions, recycled materials and things that are created with his hands rather than in a factory.

All the figures are designed in Denmark and handcrafted by skilled female craftsmen in India. Here, something as simple as old paper and cotton scraps are transformed into the most wonderful figures, animals, flowers and imaginative decorations.

From recycled paper and cotton scraps to small works of art

One of the special things about XO Handcraft are the materials. The figures are made from recycled paper, old newspapers and cardboard boxes and surplus cotton from the textile and fashion industries. Materials that otherwise could have ended up as waste thus gain new life.

Paper and cotton are torn into small pieces and mixed with water and natural, plant-based starch until it turns into a soft, porridge-like mass called pulp. Then each individual figure is shaped by hand and allowed to dry before being painted and decorated.

It is a time consuming process where every step requires skill and patience. No figures are therefore exactly alike, and small differences in shape, colour and surface are a natural part of the handmade expression.
