Behind XO Handcraft is the Danish designer Sif, who has built the brand around old craft traditions, recycled materials and a clear preference for things that are shaped with his hands rather than in a factory. Papmaché - the craft behind the figures

The figures are made of cardboard maché (cotton maché): recycled paper from old newspapers and cardboard boxes, combined with surplus cotton from the textile and fashion industry. The materials are shredded into smaller pieces, mixed with water and a natural starch from plant roots, and processed into a soft pulp. The powder is shaped by hand to fit the desired shape, allowed to dry, and finally painted with fine, hand-painted details.
