SGW Lab
SGW Lab is a ceramic studio based in London, founded in 2018 by artist Yuta Segawa. The studio has grown out of his personal artistic practice with the desire to explore and expand the possibilities within handmade ceramics. Today, SGW Lab consists of a small, dedicated team who share the vision of holding on to the importance of craftsmanship in a time of machine production and technology.
SGW Lab represents a conscious tribute to the work of the hand – a ceramic universe where tradition, philosophy and modern design merge into unique, man-made works.
Inspired by William Morris and the Arts and Crafts movement, SGW Lab is based on the motto “The Art of People”. For Morris, art and craftsmanship were about creating with and for people – a source of joy for both the creator and the user. This philosophy lives on in SGW Labs’ work.
Their mission is to explore the role of craftsmanship in the 21st century, to believe in the value of human labor and to show the beautiful opportunities that are created when hands and creativity precede machines.
