The porcupine glass is a mouth-blown glass that brings color and style to your table settings. This glass is one of Anna von Lipa's first creations and has since been a favourite among those who appreciate unique and elegant glasses that match the popular pitchers.
The porcupine glass is available in a wide range of colours, so you can choose the shade that best suits your frame, your interior or just your personal taste. Mix and match them according to your mood or occasion, and create a vibrant and festive atmosphere around your table.
Anna von Lipa has created five different pitchers in it with the distinctive porcupine glasses, which we call it here in Denmark. In addition, you will find vases and bowls in the same series that complete the elegant look and allow you to cover the perfect table. Some also prefer to mix different glass ranges from Anna von Lipa and explore countless creative ways to combine them.
Love the difference – Since all Anna von Lipa hedgehog glasses are mouth blown, they can vary slightly in thickness and contain small air bubbles, which gives them a unique charm. This is part of their authenticity, and you can expect to experience it as a natural part of the craft. Where the air can enter between the different layers of glass.
Craftsmanship with tradition and pride
The series is produced in Bohemia in the Czech Republic, where mouth-blown glass is an ancient tradition. Here, every glassblower is a proud craftsman with unique traditions and techniques. Local ingredients, including the special water and sand, play an important role in the production of this exclusive glass. They are always recycled when they melt a colour and thus go inside to waste.
How to make a porcupine glass?
Each hedgehog glass is shaped using an iron mold, which makes the unique pattern and it is subsequently shaped using a wooden mold. Therefore, there are cards between the duets on small items and longer ones on the large ones. Then follows a careful and long-lasting process that includes glass mixing, heating the oven, blowing the glass, cooling the glass, cutting the excess glass, burning and subsequently grinding the edges. Each step is carefully and precisely executed by the skilled craftsmen at the glassworks.
