Unique jewelery on UNESCO’s heritage list
This beautiful glass Christmas ornament is produced by a family business located in a small village in the Czech Republic. Here they produce original and beautiful Christmas decorations made of glass beads – a tradition they have maintained since 1902. In fact, it is the last place in the world where you work and keep alive these ancient traditions.
The tradition of mouth blowing glass beads is an ancient tradition in the area around this village. In the early 20th century, more than 400 families lived in the area, producing glass beads and jewelry thereof. It was also in the 20th century that festive decorations of the glass beads were started, which used to be mostly used for jewelry, brooches and more for, among other things, fine folk and theater costumes. Who first came up with the idea of putting the glass beads on threads and shaping them into festive decorations is not known, but you know that the decorations have been made for more than 100 years and that the glass beads over the years are been mouth blown, silvered, colored, and shaped to create the most beautiful decorations.
The craftsmanship behind the decorations is so rare and unique that they have been included in UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage list.
