Namaste was founded in 1997 by Sam Brummitt, after a journey filled with adventure, inspiration and meetings that came to shape the heart of the company. The idea arose during a conversation in Rajasthan with a local textile artisan – a friendship that remains an important part of Namaste’s history. Sam returned home with the desire to create a business that could both provide a livelihood and at the same time give something back to the people and communities he had met on his journey.
The name Namaste, which means “I salute the spirit in you”, reflects the company’s fundamental values – respect, cooperation and human connection.
Since its inception, Namaste has worked to support craftsmen in some of the world’s most remote regions. They deal directly with manufacturers and workshops, where traditional craft techniques are still being upheld and where stable cooperation makes a real difference in local communities.
Namaste is driven by two strong passions:
– Promoting Fair Trade and preserving craft traditions through unique products created with care and quality.
– To inspire customers with products that share a common characteristic: soul, history and sustainability.
The company attaches great importance to environmentally friendly production and is continuously working on using sustainable and recycled materials.
Today, Namaste is known for creating beautiful, ethical products with roots in authentic craftsmanship – from textiles and interiors to decorative figures and Christmas decorations. Each object bears a story about the hands that shaped it and the spirit of the culture from which it springs.
With more than two decades of commitment to Fair Trade, Namaste continues its journey – a journey of community, responsibility and the love of handmade quality.
