The beautiful carnation surrounded by leaves on this mat is inspired by an Arts and Crafts wallpaper, which can be found in V&A’s archives. “Compton” was designed in 1895-96 for Compton Hall in Wolverhampton, England, the home of Laurence Hodson. It was probably the result of a collaboration between William Morris (183496) and his assistant J. H. Dearle (1859-1932)
