This beautiful cushion cover from A World of Craft is hand-woven in Guatemala by small local families working with traditional weaving techniques that have been passed down through the generations. Here, Swedish design meets the strong craft traditions of the Maya people, and the result is pillowcases with lots of colour, structure and personality.

A World of Craft works according to fair trade principles and collaborates directly with local craftsmen and family-owned workshops. This means that production takes place in a more responsible way, where the craftsmen are given proper conditions, and where the traditional craft is at the same time preserved and continued.

Each pillowcase is woven by hand, and therefore there may be slight variations in colours, patterns and weaves. This is not a mistake, but a natural part of the charm of handmade textiles. The small differences make each pillowcase unique.

Only a limited number of meters of each design are woven, and the collections change with new colors and patterns approximately every 34 months. This also means that many designs won’t come back once they’re sold out.

The pillowcase is perfect for those who want to create a colorful and personal home with products where quality, craftsmanship and history are allowed to fill.

Description
At Afroart, they want to collaborate with local craftsmen and artists from countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The aim is to make the craft visible in areas where the craft is one of the most important sources of income. Afroart’s own design team helps to develop both the design, but also the development of tools, creating new areas of work and at the same time helping the traditional crafts survive. Here the focus is on not wearing down or misusing the earth’s resources. So here is an extra focus on recycling materials. Things are handmade and preferably locally, this is to create life in the cities and not collect the work in larger cities. Afroart imports through fair trade organisations, which ensure that they trade directly from small artisans. The following countries cooperate with Bangladesh, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Ecuador, Ivory Coast, El Salvador, Philippines, Ghana, Guatemala, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Morocco, Mexico, Mongolia, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Tanzania, Vietnam.
